"How To Sharpen Yourself With Friends: Proverbs 27"
Summary/Abstract Show Notes
Robert welcomes the listener to Set Free 24/7, a program where a proverb is shared every day. He expresses his gladness that the listener is there, suggesting that it is not by chance, but providential. He then shares the proverb of the day, titled You Don't Know Tomorrow, which speaks of not announcing what one will do tomorrow, as well as not drawing attention to oneself. He compares carrying a log across the shoulders and hefting a boulder with the arms to the burden of having to put up with a fool.
He ends the conversation by wishing the listener a good day. In essence, Robert encourages the listener to be mindful of the words they speak, to not be boastful, and to be aware of the people they surround themselves with. This conversation is based on Proverbs 27. It emphasizes the importance of expressing approval and being a good friend. A spoken reprimand is better than approval that's never expressed, and sweet friendship refreshes the soul.
Friendships should be cherished and nurtured since growth can only happen in relationships. Additionally, one should be wary of accepting anything from a stranger, as hell has a voracious appetite and one should never take their friends and family for granted. Finally, one's face mirrors their heart, and silver and gold are only tested by fire. In this episode, the speaker discusses Proverbs 27 and encourages those listening to be a friend to get a friend.
He suggests that people reach out, show up for coffee, and do life with people, no matter the heat or sparks that may be generated. He also encourages listeners to share prayer requests in the comments section. This Proverb a Day challenge has been fun for the speaker and he hopes it has been beneficial for the listeners as well. He encourages them to like and share the episode and reminds them that he reads all the comments. He wishes them a great day and looks forward to seeing them tomorrow for Proverb 28.

Highlights How do we sharpen who we are? We do it in relationships with others. One person encounters another and there is an interchange of thoughts, feelings, ideas, and values. There's little growth in isolation. Isolated from others, we become dull. Our thinking is blunted, as are our feelings. And with our feelings, our faith, our hope, our love. The only way to remedy that is to routinely rub up against other people despite the heat that may generate or the sparks that may fly.
What did you get out of today? Was there a verse or a theme that kind of stood out to you? The verses that stood out to me were verse number five. A spoken reprimand is better than approval that's never expressed. I've said this numerous times while we've been doing Proverbs. Just go say something nice to somebody. How many times do we think about something, a compliment for somebody, and we just never take the time to send it? And sending those compliments can literally be a game-changer for somebody. Be wary of accepting what a transient has pawned.
If you wake your friend in the early morning by shouting Rise and shine, it will sound to him more like a curse than a blessing. A nagging spouse is like a drip, drip, drip of a leaky faucet. You can't turn it off and you can't get away from it. And this next section is titled your Face Mirrors Your Heart. So you use steel to sharpen steel, and one friend sharpens another.
