TITLE "Wisdom and Folly: Proverbs 14 Offers Insights on Life Choices"
SUMMARY In this conversation, Robert welcomes everyone to Day 14 of Set Free 24/7. He reminds everyone that they are two weeks in and encourages them to stick around a few more days. To continue the conversation, he references Proverbs 14, which states that a way that leads to hell is foolish and disrespectful to God.
He then goes on to state that honest living is a sign of respect for God, while degenerate living is a slap in his face. Finally, he notes that frivolous talk can provoke a derisive smile. In conclusion, Robert encourages everyone to be mindful of their words and actions in order to show respect for God. This conversation highlights the importance of wise words and actions. It emphasizes the importance of hard work, moral living and compassion for the poor. It also touches upon the consequences of foolishness, such as heartbreak and regret.
The conversation encourages listeners to be open-minded and slow to anger, to avoid evil and to fear and honor God. It also warns of the dangers of listening to false witnesses and of exploiting the powerless. Finally, it stresses that wisdom is found in understanding and that a good leader will have loyal followers. In this conversation, the speaker talks about the importance of being mindful of the words we say. Chapter 14 of the Bible speaks to this, emphasizing the need to work hard, be devoted to God, and watch what we say in order to be strong and successful.
The speaker encourages the listener to think twice before speaking and to ask for prayer requests if needed. He ends the conversation by reminding the listener that he will be back for Chapter 15 the following day. The overall takeaway is that words matter and being aware of the words we use is essential for being successful and having a strong relationship with God.

Heading: The Wisdom of the Wise: Proverbs on Righteous Living 0:05:00
Scripture Reflection: Proverbs 14 - Watch What You Say HIGHLIGHTS God devotion makes a country strong. God avoidance leaves people weak. Diligent work gets a warm commendation. But shiftless work earns an angry rebuke. And friends, that's the end of chapter 14. Just like that, we are done. Chapter a day to keep the police away. What stood out to you today? Any special verses that may have spoken to you again?
This one, kind of like yesterday, is talking about the words that are coming out of our mouth. They're so important. Fools get stupider by the day. Souls are saved by truthful witness and betrayed by the spread of lies. The fear of God builds up confidence and makes a world safe for your children. The fear of God is a spring of living water, so you won't go off drinking from poisoned wells.
The mark of a good leader is loyal followers. Leadership is nothing without a following. Slowness to anger makes for deep understanding.. A quick tempered person stockpiles stupidity. A sound mind makes for a robust body, but runaway emotions corrode the bones. You insult your maker when you exploit the powerless. But when you're kind to the poor, you honor God. The evil of bad people leaves them out in the cold. The integrity of good people creates a safe place for living. Lady Wisdom is at home in an understanding heart. Fools never even get to say hello.
A false witness makes a business of it. Cynics look high and low for wisdom and never find it. The open minded find it right on their doorstep. Escape quickly from the company of fools. They're a waste of your time and a waste of your words. The wisdom of the wise keeps life on track. The foolishness of fools lands them in the ditch. The stupid ridicule right and wrong. But a moral life is a favored life..
The person who shuns the bitter moments of friends will be an outsider at their celebrations. Lives of careless wrongdoing are run down shacks. Holy living build soaring cathedrals. There's a way of life that looks harmless enough but look again, it leads straight to hell. Sure, those people appear to be having a good time. But all of that laughter will end in heartbreak. Sift and weigh every word.

"Proverbs 13: Gain Wisdom Through Careful Words AndEnergetic Pursuits"
Summary/Abstract
Robert welcomed the audience to Set Free 24/7 and introduced the task of reading one proverb a day to keep the police away. He asked how they were doing the past 13 days and commented on the importance of staying on the straight and narrow path. He mentioned his own experience of being on the wrong path, which is bumpy and rocky, and can even lead to prison time. He then introduced the audience to the Message version of Proverbs chapter 13 for them to read.
The Message version is just a paraphrase of the Bible and a different translation, but the audience can also follow their favorite translation if they prefer. This conversation is about the importance of walking with the wise and listening to God's word as found in Proverbs 13. It begins by explaining that intelligent children listen to their parents, while foolish children do their own thing. This is then followed by a discussion of the benefits of speaking carefully, working hard, and avoiding sin. The speaker then touches on the differences between an empty life and a full life, and the consequences of ignoring God's word. Finally, the speaker outlines the benefits of disciplining children and having an appetite for good.
Overall, this conversation emphasizes the importance of living a godly life and the rewards that come with it. In this conversation, the speaker encouraged the audience to read the Bible, even if it’s the same passage they’ve read before, because the same words can mean different things in different seasons of life. The speaker then shared a quote from Eugene Peterson, who said that his first spiritual director had never heard the term “spiritual director”, but their mutual ignorance didn’t stop them from meeting twice a week to talk, pray, and walk through life together. The speaker then shared the importance of having a community to journey through life together with, rather than doing it alone.
They then shared Proverbs 13:3, which says “Careful words make for a careful life. Careless talk may ruin everything.” This serves as a reminder to be mindful of our words, as they can have a significant impact on our lives. The speaker emphasizes the importance of carefully choosing words when speaking to others, as careless words can have a lasting effect on people. The speaker encourages the listener to be intentional with their words and to give compliments, motivation, and hope to those they encounter. The speaker concludes by encouraging the listener to like, share, and pray for the episode, and to leave prayer requests in the comments. In summary, the speaker encourages the listener to be mindful and kind when speaking to others, as words have the power to positively or negatively shape people's lives.

"The Power of Words: How Our Words Impact Others"
Highlights
But we really need to watch the things that come out of our mouth. I've heard stories from people where they remember something negative that somebody said to them for years, decades even. And that is so sad to me that something as simple as a word that someone says that may have just been careless and they didn't think about it has stuck with somebody in the back of their head and has taken up space in their head for decades.
What verse stood out to you today? Eugene Peterson had a pretty cool pause here about chapter 13, and it says that my first spiritual director didn't know that he was a spiritual director. He had never so much as heard the term. Neither had I. But our mutual ignorance of the terminology didn't stop us. We were both doing something for which we had no name. For a summer of Tuesday and Thursday evenings, we met in the prayer room of the church basement, talking, praying, and walking with each other through the daily ups and downs of life.
But the belly of the wicked always wants more. And friends, just like that, we are done with Proverbs chapter 1313 days into this thing. I mean, if we keep hanging out like this on a daily basis, pretty soon somebody's going to start to think something. Have you seen anything change in your life since you've been engaging in the Bible on a daily basis? I know I have. I started reading the Bible with my wife back in January, and I started doing a Proverb a day back in December.
And this one is titled Walk with the Wise. Intelligent children listen to their parents. Foolish children do their own thing. The good acquire a taste for helpful conversation. Bullies push and shove their way through life. Careful words make for a careful life.
Careless talk may ruin everything. Indolence wants it all and gets nothing. The energetic have something to show for their lives. A good person hates false talk.. A bad person wallows in gibberish. A godloyal life keeps you on track. Sin dumps the wicked in the ditch. A pretentious and showy. Life is an empty life. A plain and simple life is a full life. The rich can be sued for everything that they have. But the poor are free of such threats. The lives of good people are brightly lit streets. The lives of the wicked are dark alleys. Arrogant knowitalls stir up discord.

"Proverbs 12: A Day To Keep The Police Away, Fostering Goodness And Guidance"
Summary/Abstract
Robert has recently returned home from Chicago after a long weekend, where he had the opportunity to speak at a church. He begins to read Proverbs 12 with the intention of getting a message from God. Robert encourages the listener to love learning and accept correction, as it is a blessing from God. He encourages them to stay away from devious schemes, as it is not beneficial or pleasing to God.
This passage from Proverbs 12 focuses on the importance of finding firm footing in righteousness and how it can lead to a life of joy and satisfaction. It emphasizes the importance of prudent words and actions, as well as hard work and diligence. The passage also warns against the consequences of wickedness and laziness, which it says can lead to disaster and ruin. Finally, it encourages people to take advice from the wise and to listen to truthful witness. The overall message is that doing what is right brings peace and security, while doing evil will ultimately lead to destruction.
The conversation is about Proverbs chapter 12 and the speaker encourages listeners to step out of their comfort zone and spread cheer to others with words. This can be done with friends, family, or even strangers. A compliment on their smile, clothing choice, or attitude can really pick someone up. The speaker guarantees that a cheerful word will pick someone up and that they have been on the receiving end of many of these words, which sustain them to the next day. The speaker ends the conversation with a call to action of liking, sharing, and leaving prayer requests in the comments if needed.

Script for Proverbs Chapter 12: A Day to Keep the Police Away
Highlights
When's the last time you just said a cheerful word to somebody? Just for the fun of it? I encourage you just step out of your comfort zone. Find somebody that you cross paths with today, tomorrow, whenever you have the opportunity and just go out of your way to say something kind and nice. It could be a compliment on their smile, or maybe, I don't know, a clothing choice or just their attitude or something that they may have done or said.
There's nothing to them. The homes of good people hold together. A person who talks sense is honored. Airheads are held in contempt. Better to be ordinary and work for a living than act important and starve in the process. Good people are good to their animals. The good hearted bad people kick and abuse them. The one who stays on the job has food on the table. The witless chase whims and fancies. What the wicked construct finally falls into ruin while the roots of the righteous give life and more life.
I couldn't let one of these get away from me. I mean, we've got a streak to keep alive here, people. So of course, here we are. Proverbs, chapter twelve. We're on the 12th day of March. It's time to get started. So we're going to see what God has to say. If you love learning if you love learning, you love the discipline that goes with it. How short sighted to refuse correction. A good person basks in the delight of God and he wants nothing to do with devious schemes.

"Develop Good Direction With Proverbs 11: Stay On Course With Godly Advice"
Summary/Abstract
This is the On the Road edition of Set Free 24/7 and the speaker is on the road with his wife Heidi, who is driving. He has been reading Proverbs for the last eleven days and hopes that the listener has seen some of the benefits of reading the Bible daily. They are on their way to Chicago, where the speaker will be speaking at a church. The theme for the Proverb today is “without good direction, people lose their way.” This is a reminder to people to constantly be looking for guidance and direction, as it is easy to get lost in life without it. Proverbs 11 encourages good direction and moral character. Without good direction and moral character, people will get lost and fall flat on their faces. The Bible and Jesus can be used as a GPS and guide for life. Good character is the best insurance and helps in difficult times. When good people prosper, the whole town cheers and when bad people suffer, the whole town celebrates. Kindness is beneficial, but cruelty causes hurt. Generosity and good work will be rewarded, but wickedness and deceit will not. This conversation is about the wisdom found in Proverbs chapter 11. It starts by discussing the proverb that states that the one who blesses others is abundantly blessed. It goes on to discuss how those who help others are helped and those who exploit or abuse their family end up with nothing. It is said that a life devoted to things is a dead life, while a God shaped life is a flourishing tree. The conversation ends with the reminder to always consult the Bible and use it to guide your life and decisions. At the end of the conversation, it is suggested that viewers like, share, and pray for each other.

"Exploring Proverbs Chapter 11: The One Who Blesses Others is Abundantly Blessed"
Highlights
Common sense tells you that's a stupid way to live a good life is a fruit bearing tree. A violent life, though, destroys souls. If good people barely make it, what's in store for the bad and friends? Just like that, we are done with Proverbs chapter 1111 days in this thing and man a Proverb a day keeps the police away. And for me this has been just a great relearning of some of the things that are in Proverbs and just going through and seeing what's the direction that we're pointed? What direction are you pointed? Have you consulted your GPS before you started out today?
The world of the stingy gets smaller and smaller. The one who blesses others is abundantly blessed. Those who help others are helped. Curses on those who drive a hard bargain. Blessings on all who play fair and square. The one who seeks good finds delight. The student of evil becomes evil. A life devoted to things is a dead life, a stump. A God shaped life is a flourishing tree. Exploit or abuse your family and you end up with a fistful of air.
So here we go. Without good direction people lose their way. God hates cheating in the marketplace but he loves it when businesses are above board. The stuck up fall flat on their faces but down to earth people stand firm. The integrity of the honest keeps them on track. The deviousness of crooks brings them to ruin. A thick bankroll is no help when life falls apart. But a principled life can stand up to the worst.. Moral character makes for smooth traveling but an evil life is a hard life. Good character is the best insurance. Crooks get trapped in their sinful lust when the wicked die. That's it. The story's over. End of hope. A good person is saved from much trouble. A bad person runs straight into it. The loose tongue of the Godless spreads destruction. The common sense of the Godly preserves them. When it goes well for good people the whole town cheers.

"Grow Your Life With Proverbs 10: Honest Living Leads To Prosperity"
Summary/Abstract
The speaker, Robert, is inviting people to join him in reading from the Bible in a paraphrased version known as the Message version. He suggests that this version makes the Bible easier to understand and helps to shed light on certain passages. He encourages people to keep the daily streak alive and to do things that will help them avoid negative police interaction. He then mentions a study he recently read that suggested reading the Bible at least four times a week. Robert is trying to create a community of people who will read the Bible and make positive changes in their lives. The speaker discussed the positive changes that resulted from a study of Proverbs. These changes included a 228% increase in sharing faith, a 231% increase in discipling others, and a 407% increase in memorizing scripture. Eugene Peterson wrote that the Proverbs are organized randomly rather than thematically, but each of them serves as a truth-tipped arrow aimed at the heart with a sharp point that penetrates the place where decisions are made and destinies are determined. This conversation highlighted the choice between wisdom and folly, goodness and wickedness, and life and death. The conversation is derived from Proverbs chapter 10 in the Bible. It emphasizes the importance of leading an honest life and encourages people to make wise choices. The speaker talks about how an honest life will bring blessings and how the wicked will suffer the consequences of their actions. They also mention how lazy people will get nothing but trouble while good people will be rewarded with success. The speaker also emphasizes that God is the best source of security and wisdom. They conclude by stressing that living an honest life will bring freedom and confidence while a dishonest life will bring misery and shame. The speaker discussed two points: the power of a kind word and how fear of God expands life. The speaker talked about how a kind word, even to a stranger, can make a huge difference in their day. This is in contrast to living a life of addiction, which is a puny life. The speaker explained that an addiction can look like many things, from social media to working too much, and anything that takes away from a close relationship with God. The speaker then asked the audience to consider if they were putting things before God in their life.

Highlights
The ambitions of bad people crash. God is solid backing to a welllived life but he calls into question a shabby performance. Good people last, they can't be moved. The wicked are here today and gone tomorrow. A good person's mouth is a clear fountain of wisdom. A foul mouth is a stagnant swamp. The speech of a good person clears the air and the words of the wicked pollute it. And friends, we're not about pollution here. So that's the end of chapter ten what stood out to you today? I like a lot of the if it's this way, it's this, and if it's this way, it's that. Because guess what? Sometimes we need things to be that clear in our life.
The more talk, the less truth. The wise will measure their words. The speech of a good person is worth waiting for. The blabber of the wicked is worthless. The talk of a good person is rich, fair for many, but chatterboxes die of an empty heart. Fear of God expands your life. God's blessing makes life rich. Nothing we can do can improve on God. An empty head thinks mischief is fun but a mindful person relishes wisdom.. The nightmares of the wicked will come true. What the good people desire, they get. When the storm is over, there's nothing left of the wicked. Good people, firm on their rock of foundation, aren't even phased. A lazy employee will give you nothing but trouble. It's like vinegar in your mouth and smoke in your eyes. The fear of God expands your life. A wicked life is a puny life. The aspirations of good people end in celebration.
Honesty lives confident and carefree but shifty is sure to be exposed. An evasive eye is a sure sign of trouble ahead but an open face to face meeting results in peace. The mouth of a good person is a deep life giving well but the mouth of the wicked is a dark cave of abuse. Hatred starts fights but love pulls a quilt over the bickering. You'll find wisdom on the lips of a person of insight but the short sighted needs a slap in the face.
And that's really what Proverbs is all about. It's showing us two different sides of things a lot of times. Eugene Peterson today, before I start out in chapter ten, he had written here beginning at this point in Proverbs, the Proverbs are now organized randomly instead of thematically. Each of them is a truth tipped arrow aimed at the target of the heart, its sharp point penetrating the place where decisions are made and destinies are determined.. In each case, the choice is clear wisdom or folly, goodness or wickedness, life or death. The choice is ours, and so are the consequences. So, friends, let's jump right in here to Proverbs chapter ten, and we're going to see what God has to say. So it's an honest life is immortal, wise son, glad father, stupid son, sad mother, ill gotten gain gets you nowhere. An honest life is immortal god won't starve an honest soul but he frustrates the appetite of the wicked.
Okay, but what about some things that might increase? So the cool thing I saw was, number one, sharing your faith with others went up 228%. Discipling other people went up 231%. And this one I love memorizing scripture, went up 407%. Now, listen, I'm not the kind of guy that's going to say, oh, you got to memorize this and you got to memorize that. This whole thing isn't about making you memorize scripture.. But I do hope that through all this, I might introduce you to some scriptures that you personally feel are worth memorizing for yourself. All of us have different scriptures that speak to us, so I hope through this you maybe find one that you're able to hold on to. I know I've had scriptures that have spoken to me in some very tough times, and it's good to have that kind of thing to keep you going, to keep you focused on the right thing.

"Reading The Bible Regularly Leads To Positive Changes In Life"
Summary/Abstract
Robert welcomed the listeners to Set Free 24/7 and began discussing Proverbs and the importance of reading the Bible. He shared a study that he had recently read, which showed that individuals who read the Bible four times or more a week had drastically reduced chances of getting drunk, engaging in sex outside of marriage, viewing pornography, and gambling. Robert concluded by saying that reading the Bible regularly likely also significantly reduces the chances of interacting with police, as this is what Set Free 24/7 is all about. The speaker talks about how reading the Bible every day has made a positive impact in their life. They encourage the listener to read Proverbs 8, which speaks of Lady Wisdom. Lady Wisdom encourages the listener to use good sense, listen to her words, and prefer her life discipline over chasing after money and worldly knowledge. This is because Wisdom is ultimately better than all the trappings of wealth. Lady Wisdom is a personalization of God's spirit, who works within us to help us live God's life and achieve wholeness in our environment. Wisdom is more than just good advice or a brilliant idea; it is a presence that helps us to pursue and deal with brokenness. Eugene Peterson encourages us to embrace Lady Wisdom's ways in order to find life, wealth, glory, honor, and a good name. He emphasizes the importance of being alert and responsive in the morning and listening carefully to Lady Wisdom's teachings. Lady Wisdom is calling out to everyone to embrace life and not settle for anything less than the best. She speaks from personal experience, having overcome her own struggles with drug addiction and fraud. She encourages her listeners to strive for an abundant life that God will make room for. She also offers her support through prayer, inviting anyone who needs to make a request to do so in the comments. Her message is to live life to its fullest and not be afraid to reach out for help.

Heading: Lady Wisdom's Message: Life is Good and Abundant for All
Highlights
Wisdom is God's spirit working within us to fashion our lives into wholeness in the actual environment in which we find ourselves. In these circumstances, in this neighborhood and in this family, lady Wisdom is present not only to make it possible to pursue wholeness, but also to deal with brokenness. It is no use shutting our eyes to it and saying that it doesn't exist. It's no use wallowing in it and saying that there's nothing that we can do about it.
Wisdom is God's spirit working within us. The Holy Spirit is God moving in us to live God's life. In proverbs this Holy Spirit is given the name lady Wisdom. What that does is personalize this aspect of God so that wisdom is not just information or a direction, not just good advice or a brilliant idea. What this does is personalize this aspect of God so that wisdom is not just information or direction and not just good advice or a brilliant idea.
You'll recognize this as true. You with open minds, truth-ready minds will see it at once. Prefer my life discipline over chasing after money and God knowledge over a lucrative career. For Wisdom is better than all the trappings of wealth. Nothing you could wish for holds a candle to her. I am Lady Wisdom and I live next to sanity. Knowledge and discretion live just down the street. The fear of God means hating evil whose ways I hate with passion, pride and arrogance and crooked talk, good counsel and common sense are my characteristics.
It's right here in black and white. Some people actually just dedicated their lives to this study to get you the information, so do with it as you may. But I know for me, this is the right path. It has to be because I know where I was before when I wasn't reading the Bible every day. I did five years in prison for drug addiction and fraud and all sorts of other crazy crimes that went along with that fed into my drug addiction.

Welcome to Set Free 24-7! Today I have a special guest who has battled depression, anxiety, and addiction to painkillers and has a beautiful story that shows how God kept pursuing him, even as he came to the end of himself.
If you don't know David, he has eyes that smile, is always ready to share a laugh with you, and a genuine heart for serving others and the Lord. I met him a year ago and getting to know him and Elizabeth has been a highlight in my life.
This podcast contains topics that can be sensitive to some listeners. David speaks about depression and coming to a place where he was contemplating taking his own life. If you are struggling with these same thoughts, please know that there is help and support available. The Suicide Prevention Hotline number is 988 on any phone and my wife and I are always willing to sit and talk with you.

SHOW NOTES:
"Davids Story: The Knock That Saved His Life"
March 24th, 2023
David is a guest on the Set Free 24-7 podcast, and he has a story to tell. He grew up in a rural area where he was brought up on his grandfather's farm and was an outgoing, but shy kid who loved to talk to people. He enjoyed playing, riding motorcycles, and swimming. His family consisted of his parents, and his father worked a lot so he didn't get to spend much time with him. However, he remembers fondly the family vacations where his father did some fishing and he spent time with his grandparents. He has experienced depression, anxiety, and addiction and has a story to tell of how God kept pursuing him even as he came to the end of himself. The speaker talks about his childhood growing up with two older brothers. They didn't go to church often and when they did, it was a long and boring experience. One of his older brothers joined the Marines at 17 and the other joined the Army and got married at a young age. The speaker was the only kid left at home, so he was very active and played a lot. Dave was the youngest of three brothers and had to fend for himself when his brothers left home. He didn't like school and was not particularly good at academics, but he did enjoy running and wrestling. In high school, he had difficulty fitting in and was beaten up a few times. He tried to stay away from people he didn't like and returned the favor when necessary. During his senior year, he went for a ride with a friend in his new 1971 Chevelle. The speaker was in an accident with a friend in which his friend's brakes went out. The accident was one of the speaker's first experiences with the Lord and he saw white lights and heard the word clear. His friend ended up in a wheelchair due to arthritis. The speaker had a lack of relationship with God before high school. After his brother died in a car accident in 1997, the speaker started to talk to a pastor and started going to church. His parents got divorced shortly after his brother's death and the speaker was very angry at the world. He was almost taken to jail after getting into a confrontation with a truck driver, but he was allowed to go to church instead. He started going to church, but wasn't really invested. Finally, in 2006, he started to invest in his faith and his relationship with God grew from there.
